Mark on February 1, 2011

God is the God of the impossible!  God enjoys doing things that are impossible for us.  When God does miracles, everyone knows that it was done by His power and will praise God!  In Mark Chapter 9, the story is told of a father who had a son who was possessed by an evil spirit and he brought his son to the disciples to be healed.  The disciples were unable to cast out the spirit.  That is when Jesus arrives.  He asks the father what is going on and the father pleads with Jesus for help: “But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” Jesus questions the man’s faith: If you can? Everything is possible for him who believes." Jesus points out that the question is not whether He is able but whether the father believes.  Jesus is certainly able. The father replies with great honesty: “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!" This may sound like a contradiction but it shows the struggle the father is going through.Jesus rewards the father’s small faith by healing his son.

We learn several things from this story:

·         What kind of God am I serving? Am I serving a God who can do anything? We must not limit God to things that we are capable of on our own.

·         When we have a grain of faith we can move mountains.  Jesus chides those present for their lack of faith but also tells them that even a small amount of faith in God can move mountains.

·         When there is little faith, there is little praying.  Jesus told the disciples that they were unable to heal the boy because of their lack of prayer. We need to pray to God so that His power will perform the miracle.

·         When the impossible is accomplished, God is glorified.  When the boy was healed the Bible says “they were all amazed at the greatness of God”

Please think, pray and answer the following question:  What is the most humanly impossible thing you will ask God to do this year?

We are asking God to help us raise 100% of our support this year.  And more specifically we are asking Him to provide 85% by the end of February to attend some necessary training - if we miss this - we will have to wait until November 2011.  This is an impossible task!  We cannot accomplish this.  It is beyond our capability.  However, we know that the God we serve, can do anything.  We are putting our faith in our God and we believe He will provide.  We are praying earnestly for Him to perform this miracle and that He will be glorified when the impossible is accomplished.  This is the impossible thing that we are asking God to do.

Jen and I often ask each other: Do you think God will provide the support we need by the end of February?  And we answer each other by quoting the line from Miracle Max in the movie The Princess Bride: “It would take a miracle!” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9tAKLTktY0

It will take a miracle.  But we serve a God of miracles! God can do it - we are praying that God will lead us to those He wants us to partner financially with.  Will you pray with us?
