Isaiah 58:8-9

Jen on February 15, 2010

8 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,"
       declares the LORD.

9 "As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Crazy how God does things to humble us and give glory to Himself.  We think that things should happen our way or God isn't in it.  I love how He chooses to work in His own way and teaches me to rest/wait/trust!

We were scheduled to go to the Chicago area because our friends had set up a missionary party for us.  There were only 3 couples to be in attendance.  Should we still drive 5 hours to do this?  Was it "worth our while" or "in God's will"? I called Mark at work on Friday morning and asked those questions.  The amazingly wonderful wise man that he is, answered, "What's not in God's will?"  GREAT question!!  We would be able to see Mark's Granddad in Indianapolis, we could bring some meals to my cousin's family where his wife just had hip replacement surgery.  We could strengthen the friendship we had with our friends, we could share our vision with three other couples.

So - we went!  And it was an amazing Saturday and Sunday!!  (We left Saturday morning and came home Sunday night  - due to tax season)  We did all of the above. We loved seeing Granddad and my cousin's family.  We strengthened our friendship with the McGradys.  We not only shared our hearts with the 3 couples but we were able to share with the adult SS classes and the children's class (grades 1-6) at their church in the morning.  We met many wonderful people. We were graciously embraced by their church, and so many people generously and sacrificially gave toward our O & P!!  We were asked to come back and meet with their impact groups (leadership team) and help with their VBS this summer!  AND - the 4-9 inch snow didn't start falling to 4 in the morning.  We traveled snow free :).  WOW!! God exceedingly and abundantly blessed the quick trip to Chicago this weekend!!

Did it look like what we thought would be successful? No.  But the coolest thing was - God was bigger than our thoughts and He answered the prayer that I have prayed for months.  I asked God to let this church embrace us - and it did!  To God be all the glory!!
